The Wolverine (Logan) - Interesting Things

Wolverine is in the X-Men… With his tortured past and brash attitude, he’s one of Marvel’s most beloved anti-heroes. Wolverine also possesses one of the coolest weapons ever -healing factor. 

As for the movies, Wolverine was excellently portrayed by Hugh Jackman , and he became the first mutant to earn his own standalone film… Well 3 actually… 

In this post, we’ll explore the character’s creation, his backstory, as well as other interesting facts… So, let’s begin… 

He Was Supposed To Be A Teenager 

Wolverine made his Marvel debut in the pages of The Incredible Hulk back in 1974.The original plan was to have a mutant with enhanced senses and an animal rage, hardly the unkillable character he is now, but even more surprising is the fact that Wolverine was also going to be a teenager! 

Luckily after a few more iterations we ended up with the older and more grizzly version fans love today! 

He knows many languages

Wolverine was born in the late 19th Century, which would make Logan around 120, so it’s no wonder he’s picked up so many valuable skills during his long lifespan. 

Not only has he trained in martial arts and military tactics (he did fight in both World Wars), he’s also travelled all around the world, learning about different cultures and mastering virtually every fighting style on the planet. 

He learned Japanese, presumably during his early travels to Japan, and French, most likely from his adventures in the wilderness of Quebec. He’s completely fluent in Russian, English, Chinese, Lakota, Cheyenne and Spanish. He also knows Thai and Vietnamese. And apparently, he’s even an expert in computer systems.  

He's a father 

Marvel attempted to breathe fresh life into the Wolverine story line by giving him his memories back after the House of M event. This was a controversial move, as the fact that Logan couldn't remember anything before the Weapon X program had defined him for along time. 

Nonetheless, he soon remembered that the child he thought had been killed in the womb (by The Winter Soldier) during the '40s was very much alive. Brought up to resent his father, Daken wasan interesting addition to the canon, and he did everything possible to make Wolverine's life a living hell. 

He Has A Female Clone 

Wolverine’s genetic twin, X-23 was created in a laboratory by Weapon X scientists who had a small sample of Logan's DNA. She was given two adamantium claws on her hands, and one on each foot as well. She was also given a "trigger scent". 

He Murdered The X-Men

In the Old Man Logan story line, the world's greatest villains all decided to team up to take over the world. Sounds familiar. But how could they get rid of a powerful mutant like Wolverine? 

Well, a large group of bad guys attacked the mansion, and Wolverine sprung into action, brutally taking them all down, similar to the movie X2. Shockingly, the whole thing was revealed to be an illusion created by Mysterio; and the bad guys Wolverine had killed were actually the rest of the X-Men. 

Logan made a suicide attempt by allowing a freight train to run him over, but the attempt failed. Still Logan had effectively killed "Wolverine”in his mind. 

He Fought Spock...And Lost 

The '90s was a weird time for comic books and, on the verge of bankruptcy, Marvel moved ahead with any number of weird projects. One such example was 1996's Star Trek and X-Men series which as the title suggests featured a very peculiar crossover. 

At one point in the comic, Wolverine lunged at Spock in a berserker  rage, but was neutralised immediately by the Vulcan with his famous nerve pinch. This is considered to be one of Wolverine's most embarrassing moments, and to be honest it’s not hard to see why. He's taken down terrorists and Sentinels,but Spock? He never stood a chance.  

His Claws Weren't Real Making

Wolverine a teenager wasn't the strangest thing creator Len Wein considered. Early ideas included him being an actual wolverine that had somehow mutated into a humanoid creature, similar to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. 

Which are awesome! As if that wasn't already weird enough, the now iconic claws were supposed to be gloves with weapons attached to them, robbing Wolverine of arguably his most unique feature (and the classic "Snikt!" sound). How Wolverine actually got his claws remained a mystery until the early 90’s… 

He Recently Lost His Healing Factor 

One of Wolverine's defining traits is the fact that he can quickly heal any wound. He's survived being shot, stabbed, and even blown up. But a big twist came in Paul Cornell's Wolverine saga where Logan’s healing factor has become broken. 

He lost it when he was possessed by a sentient virus from the Microverse. He still has his adamantium claws and enhanced senses and decades of fighting experience, but Wolverine is now subject to the same dangers ordinary people are. 

He can be hurt or killed. For the first time in almost his entire history, comic book fans got to see the character in a completely new way; vulnerable. 

Now He's Dead LOGAN 

Wolverine has died both in the comics and the movie Logan… In the comics, The Adamantium slowly started to kill Wolverine, and with a bounty on his head, it was clear that his time was nearing an end. Hunting down who placed that hit, Wolverine found one of the men responsible for creating him in Weapon X and proceeded to save his new test subjects and kill the doctor. 

However, he was covered in liquid Adamantium in the process, and as it started to harden up, Wolverine enjoyed one last sunset as he died encased in this indestructible tomb. As for the movie, The super serum in Logan's body wears off before he fights X-24, another wolverine clone. 

The two fight violently until X-24 impales Logan on a tree, which leads to his death.. Really killed by a branch? That’s the best they could do?
